沖縄岛 (Okinawa) Day 2, Gangala

ガンガラーの谷, Valley of Gangala

Origin of the name Gangala. It is said the name Gangala came from a sound that a rock would make when it fell down some of the deep chasms here in this area. It would sound like “gangala gangala”.

In the cave, its having the unusual rock formations, giant caverns, and strange looking trees. It also leave the trail of the cave broken up from one side to the other side. Looks so unusual looking natural terrain. It is approximately 1hr and half japanese guided tour. With out level of japanese language, is better to read on the  English handout that helps explain some of the stations. ^^

It rained when we start our journey in the cave. We walked in the drizzling cave, it gave us another feel of the valley and cave. We wet a little here and there. Carrying the big and small babies for the valley, for this unusual looks of cave...

ガンガラーの谷 Highlights of the tour. One of the highlights you will see is the 'Walking Bayan Tree'. The nickname was given because each new root that grew extended itself down below creating another 'leg' on the ground, thus extending its growth outward and giving the impression that the tree is moving or 'walking'.... even today, bits by bits...

Inagudo Cave (female cave). It is believe that a female goddess lives in this cave. People come here to pray for a prosperous relationship and inside lies a certain rock that resembles that of a female figure. But the cave is not accessible for passage.

Ikigado Cave (male cave). This is a much larger cave that people can walk inside. It is believed that a male god resides here.It is believed that people between 200-300 years came here to pray for fertility. And so the dripping water from the rocks form the male figure.

The tour guide explain :
"It is believed that the first inhabitants lived in this area some 18,000 years ago. These inhabitants are referred to as the 'Minatogawa People' residing during the Paleolithic era. There are few caves in this area. This cave is considered as the most expensive cave, due to the good location and ventilation of the cave."

Ethan very concern about the cave and so he went to the first row and sit in between someone to get the first hands news.

It was a hot day even after the drizzling.

The highlights of the tour guide:
"Go under the water, go up to the mountain top, and to the beach again"
水の下へ、山の頂上へ、その後ビーチに行きました
(Mizu no shita e, yama no choujou e, sonogo biichi ni ikimashita)
